As you look for a nozzle, keep in mind

  • what you need to do
  • what are the pipe characteristics you will be cleaning (size/slope/material)
  • when using the size and length of hose you have, what pressure and flow can your jetter deliver at the nozzle

Some nozzles combine angles to “multi-task”, but most likely you will have to use 2 or more nozzles on any job, each doing a different task to produce a clean line.

Water pressure does the blasting and loosening of material caked on to pipe walls.

Water volume (gpm) flushes out loose debris.

Rotation assists clearing hard blockages as well as hardened deposits.

You want to harness as much energy from your pump and convert it to pressure and/or flow without creating back pressure, or letting that potential energy flow out unrestricted from jets that are too large for your pump.

Smaller jetters working in smaller lines generally use higher pressure and lower flow to clean.

Flat grade pipes call for lower flows to allow for draining.

Greater water volume is generally more important than pressure in larger pipes, and you will want an efficient nozzle to get as much debris cleared using the water you have, ideally avoiding refills.

The cleaning pressure (psi) your pump can deliver is dependent on hose length and its diameter. Pressure loss will occur from a pump as the hose length is increased.

Refer to the specs listed for each nozzle. If you need something different, just let us know!

In general:

  • Lower ° angles– more pulling power
  • Higher ° angles – more cleaning power
  • Forward jets – penetrating, pushing debris forward
  • Rotating jets – cutting, loosening of hardened deposits, additional flushing action

Rules of thumb on angles:

  • 15° to 25° — Maximum pulling necessary for long runs, or in combination with side or front jets to ensure forward propulsion.
  • 25° to 35° – Flushing of sand and sludge, especially with rotating nozzles.
  • 35° — Provides a good combination of flushing and thrusting action with good pulling power for use on medium runs.
  • 45° or 55° — Good cleaning power with reasonable pulling power, good flushing action with reduced pulling power.
  • 45° to 80° with rotation – clear heavy calcium deposits, de-scaling.
  • 90° — A single 90° jet helps navigate corners, multiple side nozzles provide a rinsing and polishing action. Must have rear jets for forward movement.
  • Forward jets — Penetrate softer obstructions. Rotating forward jets cut through hardened blockages. There should be at least 2 rear jets for each forward jet to provide forward movement.

Styles

Our nozzles fall into 2 broad categories:
– Drilled orifice nozzles are inexpensive, but wear quickly especially if not maintained.
– Nozzles with replaceable inserts are engineered to tackle the toughest obstructions with power and efficiency. With regular maintenance and repair, they have a long life span, reducing the cost of ownership.

Short body and smooth round nose reduce hang ups. Ideal for working in turns, traps and elbows.
– Knurled sides for hand-tightening
– Suitable for most general cleaning applications

1 forward jet and 3 rear jets at 25°

Excellent pulling power lets you quickly get to and penetrate blockages to establish flow in a fully blocked pipe.

Good for general drain cleaning while maneuvering elbows and tees.

4 rear jets at 25°

Clean at a greater distance with maximum pulling power.

Good for general drain cleaning.

3 rear jets @ 25° |  3 rear jets @ 45°  |  1 forward jet @ 0°

Dual rear angles create a wider area of turbulence helping to keep sand, gravel and heavier debris suspended and moving while cleaning a pipe. Still pulls well.

1 side jet @ 90° |  3 rear jets @ 45°

Ideal for tight turns and elbows, good flushing action and reasonable pulling power. Side jet pushes hose towards one side of the pipe and combined with twisting of the hose it can be steered into a tee or branch fitting.

Suitable for general drain cleaning applications.

6 rear jets @ 45°

Excellent flushing, good pulling power. Provides more effective cleaning of pipe walls after flow has been established in a blocked pipe.

Maintenance

Inspect your nozzles for cracks, plugged jets or worn threads and maintain or replace as necessary.

We carry maintenance kits for Warthog and Reaper nozzles to extend their working life. Kits include replacement components or fluids. See our Nozzles shop page.

Tip cleaners (below) can help keep drilled orifices open and clear. Thread sealant is recommended for use on threads of button nose nozzles.

Nozzle Kits

Nozzle kits are collections of commonly used jetter nozzles, in a handy case. See each kit for a list of what is included.
